Home Base Program helps Cape League celebrate Red Shirt Fridays

Last night, June 20, is the first Red Shirt Friday of the 2014 season for the Cape Cod Baseball League.
On Fridays during the season, each Cape League home team will wear red shirts in support of the troops. This marks the fifth year of Red Shirt Fridays on Cape Cod, and the CCBL is hoping to take it to the next level with the help of the Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Home Base Program. Members of the Home Base team will be attending several Friday games throughout the season and acting as a resource for veterans and their families.
Tonight, at the Falmouth Commodores' home game, the first pitch was to be thrown out by Tommy Furlong, associate director of Veteran Outreach for the Home Base Program and a former U.S. Marine Corps Infantryman who served in Afghanistan. The event is free of charge.
The Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Home Base Program helps Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and military families heal from the "invisible wounds" of war, Post Traumatic Stress and Traumatic Brain Injury - through clinical care, community education and research.
