Hutchinson BallHogs News Release
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa â Eastern Iowa basketball fans will go "Hog wild for hoops" next winter when the Cedar Rapids BallHogs make their debut in the All American Professional Basketball League.
The team nickname and logo were announced at a press conference Monday at the U.S. Cellular Center.
"In all of our cities we want to identify a significant connection with the community," said Brad Pick, League Director of Operations. "Iowa's association with the pork industry and the history of the packing houses in Cedar Rapids make for a great tie-in for this team and will allow us to do some entertaining things for our fans."
Other league entries so far are the Lincoln (Neb.) Generals, Wichita (Kan.) Bombers, Pueblo (Colo.) Aztecs, Casper (Wyo.) Golden Eagles, Billings (Mont.) Rims, Butte (Mont.) Bandits, and Great Falls (Mont.) Cowboys.
The AAPBL will begin play in mid November 2005. The regular season will run through mid March, with playoffs ending in mid to late April.
The BallHogs will play 31 home games, all at the U.S. Cellular Center in downtown Cedar Rapids. An announcement concerning the team offices in downtown Cedar Rapids will be made soon.
