High Flying Battle Set Between Force And Panthers

April 24, 2010 - Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL)
Albany Panthers News Release

ALBANY, GA (April 24, 2010) - Two high flying offenses will collide when the Greenville Force (2-1) and the Albany Panthers (2-0) of the Southern Indoor Football League get together for Week 6 in a rare Sunday matinee.

Both teams have started out flaming hot setting numerous SIFL records along with collecting several Player of the Week honors. Albany and Greenville are featured 1-2 as the leagues top passing offense and total offense. The two feature the top two quarterback and receiving tandems around with the Force duo of Andrew Webb and Isaac West as well as the Panthers pair of Cecil Lester and Clinton Raffe.

Last weekend, the Force suffered their first setback of the season when they fell 79-52 to the Louisiana Swashbucklers. After falling behind early 14-0, but thanks in large part to receiver Isaac West's eight receptions and five-touchdown career setting performance, Greenville rallied to take a five-point lead mid-way through the 3rd quarter. However, four costly fumbles leading to three Swashbucklers touchdowns proved to be too much to overcome for the Force.

In their game last week, Albany had to overcome a 15-point deficit late in the 3rd quarter on their way to defeating the Lafayette Wildcatters 70-64. Led behind quarterback Cecil Lester's 397 passing yards and eight touchdowns, the Panthers moved to the top of the SIFL standings as well as gaining Lester his second Offensive Player of the Week nod for Week 5. In two games, Cecil is averaging 353 passing yards/game while top target Clinton Raffe is averaging nine receptions/game.

As both the Force and Panthers score over 50 points/game, but defensively they are also surrendering the same amount with Lafayette only giving up more. If there is another glaring weakness for these clubs it's their knack for turning over the ball as they are only clubs in the SIFL with a negative turnover margin.

Albany has been going through some kicking woes and will decided to carry two kickers this weekend in light of a dismal performance from kicker Andrew Jansen last weekend. After Jansen went 1 for 5 in PAT attempts, the Panthers elected to go for two after their last five touchdowns against Lafayette.

The Greenville Force will travel to take on the Albany Panthers at the Albany Civic Center in a Sunday matinee on April 25th with first kickoff at 5:00 p.m. For more ticket information contact the Panthers front office at 229-435-1230 or visit them at www.albanypanthers.net.
