Huntington Heroes News Release

Five more players have signed to play for the Huntington Heroes of the AIFA in 2008. Agreeing to terms with the Heroes are Wilmont Perry, Dentyl "Jay" Jackson, DeLeon Raynor, Jesse Parker, and Byron Cobb. All five players were part of the 2007 NIFL Champion Fayetteville Guard.

Wilmont Perry is a 6'2" 255lbs. fullback that played collegiate football at Livingstone College. He was a 3rd round draft pick by the New Orleans Saints in 1998 and rushed for a career high 98 yards against Atlanta in 1999. He went on to play in the Arena Football League for the Columbus Destroyers and in the AF2 with Cape Fear. In Fayetteville, Perry rushed for over 3,000 yards and scored 78 touchdowns. "Wilmont's experience and performance speaks for itself, I'll just say this, I am glad he is on our team now, unlike two years ago", Coach Johnson said, speaking of the 2006 season when Lakeland played against Fayetteville twice.

Dentyl Jackson joins the Heroes after spending the last two years with the Fayetteville Guard as a Wide Receiver/Defensive Back. In the last two seasons, Jackson racked up 93 catches, over 1400 yards receiving and 41 touchdowns, including 3 touchdowns in the 2007 NIFL Championship game. "Speed, Speed, Speed. Jay is just exciting to watch, and he knows how to win. He is another player that I can smile and say he is on our side now", Coach Johnson said.

Jesse Parker joins the Heroes as a Defensive Back/Wide Receiver. In 2007, Parker recorded 68 tackles, 19 interceptions (2 returned for touchdowns) and 7 forced fumbles. He was also a major contributor to the 2007 NIFL Championship Team and was a part of the Guard's famed "Air Traffic Control" and "Lock Down Show" for the Defensive Backs.

Also manning the defensive backfield, in 2008, is DeLeon Raynor. Raynor was a 3 year starter for North Carolina Central and 3 years with the Fayetteville Guard. He recorded 53 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 3 interceptions (one for TD) and blocked 3 punts his senior year at NCC. In 2007, with the Guard, Raynor had 75 tackles, 6 forced fumbles and 15 INT's all in 11 games.

Byron Cobb, from Fayetteville State University, joins the Heroes as a Line Backer/Defensive End. He was part of back to back CIAA Championships in 2002 and 2003 and was a big part of the 2007 Fayetteville Guard Championship team.

"We have a trend going here, speed, experience, and championships. You cannot coach anyone of those and we have been fortunate enough to bring a whole lot of it to Huntington", Head Coach Teddy Keaton said of the Heroes new additions.
