Huntington Heroes News Release

The Heroes begin a two game home stand this Saturday when they host the 1-9 Danville Demolition at Big Sandy Superstore Arena. With a 7-3 record and a four game win streak, the Heroes are looking to solidify their spot in the AIFA playoffs and are playing for a possible home playoff game.

After a week off the Heroes are hoping that they can deliver the same dominating performance they turned in two weeks ago in a 70-34 thrashing of Demolition in their home arena. "We played very well on both sides of the ball," said head Coach Garry McPeek. "Dane was a perfect 13 of 13 at halftime and we had constant pressure on their QB all night long." In the last game with the Demolition the Heroes went in with very little information on their opponent. This time around the Heroes have a little more to work with. The Demoltion have two dangerous weapons on offense in quarterback Derrick DeBoef and receiver R.J. Luke. "The quarterback is a competitor," said McPeek, "he does a good job of getting the ball out very quickly. Luke is an Arena 1 type guy."

Despite Danville's 1-9 record and the previous big win over them coach McPeek doesn't expect the Heroes to lose focus. "We stay focused by understanding that every time out we are playing against ourselves. Our goal for the remainder of the season is to play our best and see what happens. If we play the as we are capable we have a chance to do some great things." Don't expect to see reserve players on the field this week either, "We will do as we always do and dress our 20 best players. We owe that to our organization, the league we play in and most of all our fans."

Now that the season is 3/4 over the playoff picture is starting to shape up. The Heroes control their own destiny and can host a home playoff game. Just last week the AIFA changed the previous playoff rule that allowed the top three from each division into the playoffs. Now the top four make it. When asked if the new rule changes the way the Heroes will approach the playoffs coach McPeek said, "It does not change our approach at all. Our goal is to get a home playoff game. I don't even look at standings, those are the same standings that have been wrong all season by the league in posting our 'Exhibition' game as a loss. So we will just keep playing and see what happens."

Kickoff is set for 7:00pm at Big Sandy Superstore Arena. You can order your tickets online or by visiting or calling the arena box office at 304-696-4400. This game is the first of the season's final two home games. The Heroes finish the regular season home schedule when they host the north division leading Reading Express next Saturday.
