July 27, 2006 - World Indoor Football League 2 (WIFL 2)
Huntington Heroes News Release
HUNTINGTON,WV-The Huntington Heroes announced today that they will join with six other established franchises to form an owner-based indoor football circuit that will begin play in the 2007 season.
Under the working title of the "World Indoor Football League," the new league currently consists of seven teams - the Augusta (Ga.) Spartans, the Charleston (S.C.) Sandsharks, the Daytona Beach (Fla.) Thunder, the Huntington (W.V.) Heroes, the Osceola (Kissimmee, Fla.) Outlaws, the Raleigh (N.C.) Rebels and the Rome (Ga.) Renegades. Each franchise has been in operation for at least one season.
Team owner Greg Ramey says, "I am extremely excited about the Heroes being a charter member of this league. We have worked hard to get to this point and the city of Huntington deserves to have a team in a quality league. The Heroes fans have been so loyal and the team sponsors will have an even better product now from which to benefit.
More teams are expected to come on board in the next few weeks, according to Greg Ramey.
It is going to be a pleasure to play in a league where decisions are made by the owners of the teams, collectively, and where the owners share in the league's success," Greg Ramey said.
The Huntington Heroes began their inaugural season in 2006 with a 62-13 win over the Miami Valley Silverbacks in front of a packed Veterans Memorial Field House. They finished the regular season with an excellent 9-5 record under the leadership of Head Coach Garry McPeek. The Heroes earned the right to be in the playoff where they lost a tough road game to the regular season champs, Reading Express.
The Heroes will also announce season ticket information soon. A splash page has been created at www.wifl.us with links to the team's respective web sites. As the league properly develops a state-of-the art internet communications program, fans are invited to visit the sites of the respective team's.
