Huntington Heroes News Release
The Heroes return to action this Saturday when they travel to Danville, IL to take on the 1-7 Danville Demolition. The Heroes are hoping to continue the momentum of a 3 game winning streak and solidify their spot in the AIFA playoff race. The Heroes are 6-3 and are tied for second in the AIFA's north division with the Canton Legends.
Despite Danville's record head coach Garry McPeek expects the Demolition's best shot. "Anytime you go on the road in the AIFA you are going be in a dog fight," said McPeek. "We are preparing very hard this week and expect a hard fought game."
The Demolition have been on the wrong end of a few blowouts this season, but last week they showed signs of turning things around in a 56-42 loss to the Reading Express. After trailing by as much as 30 points in the third quarter the Demolition made a late game push, but the Express proved to be too much. "Danville is a very dangerous team, they have absolutely nothing to lose and will play us nose to nose," said McPeek.
The Heroes are riding off of three straight games where the offense appears to have come to life. Since Dane Damron took over the reigns of the offense they have scored 170 points in three games and amassed 710 yards through the air. "Dane is doing fine," said McPeek. "It takes a 35 year old a few extra days to heal up, but other than that he is doing great. He is the spark our offense needed. He can make every throw and his leadership skills are second to none."
The defense looks to be coming along as well, particularly up front. "The defensive front continues to be the strong point of our football team. The secondary is starting to gel. They are communicating much better. That is a direct corellation of Connie Brown. He is a coach on the field and does a great job of keeping our secondary on the same page."
