Henifin Heading Back to Australia for Second Season

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Former Bellingham Slam and Western Washington University forward Zack Henifin will be returning to a familiar situation in Australia as he continues his basketball career overseas.
Henifin has been re-signed by the Brisbane Spartans, the team he competed with in 2013. The Spartans are a member of the Southeast Australia Basketball League.
The versatile 6-foot-5 Bellingham native became a dual champion in 2012, as he joined the Slam's International Basketball League title-winning squad that year after capturing a NCAA Division-II national championship as a senior at Western Washington.
For the Slam, Henifin averaged 10 points and 6 rebounds a game, and posted a number of double-doubles. He helped Bellingham to a 15-3 regular season record in 2012, good for first place in the IBL. Henifin and the Slam went on to rout the Portland Chinooks in the league championship game at home that season.
After one season with the Slam, Henifin landed a spot with a team in Romania, before eventually leaving that squad for greener pastures in Australia in 2013.
Henifin proved to be an outstanding addition for the Brisbane Spartans last season, as he posted averages of 16 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists per game, and on several occasions narrowly missed out on posting a triple-double.
"He exploded on the league last season with his speed and athleticism and we will need this again if we want to be a contender," Spartans Head Coach Scott Lloyd said of Henifin. "Zack became very popular in the club and everyone at the Spartans can't wait to have him back."
Henifin will depart for Australia in several weeks to join the Spartans as they prepare for their season opener on March 22.
