Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - Continuing the new efforts to thrill baseball and non-baseball fans alike, the Lancaster JetHawks, Class A Affiliate of the Houston Astros, will welcome its very own dance squad to Clear Channel Stadium in 2009. The Hawkettes, a staple of JetHawks games in the early days of the team, return bigger and better than ever to entertain the crowd, help create a positive stadium experience for every fan, and to cheer the JetHawks on to a second straight Southern Division crown in the California League and fifth consecutive half-season title!
Made up of experienced collegiate and high school dancers and cheerleaders from across the Antelope Valley, the Hawkettes will perform at all JetHawks home games during the 2009 season. Besides the dance routines that will take place between innings, the Hawkettes will aid the JetHawks entertainment staff with in-game contests. Furthermore, they will serve as ushers to help brighten the day for JetHawks fans throughout the crowd.
The performances will be overseen by JetHawks Director of Promotions Jeremy Castillo. "I think the only people more excited about the return of the Hawkettes than I am are the new Hawkettes themselves," Castillo says. "Many of them grew up coming to JetHawks games watching the original Hawkettes and it's a dream for them to be professional cheerleaders for their hometown team. It's great to see how much talent and spirit there is here in the AV."
"The Hawkettes will be a big part of establishing a new jolt of energy at JetHawks games this season," explains JetHawks General Manager Larry Thornhill. "The baseball is going to be great, but we won't let a minute go by without making sure that our fans are having a good time. Whether they're performing on the field or interacting with fans in the stands, the Hawkettes will help establish the new atmosphere that has been promised by our new owners."
Young children who wish to become cheerleaders and dancers when they grow up will have a unique opportunity to learn from the Hawkettes at a special camp at Clear Channel Stadium on June 16. Similar to the JetHawks highly popular baseball camps, the program will be run by the Hawkettes and give youth dancers and cheerleaders individual and group instruction, as well as the chance to perform at a JetHawks game.
More information about the Hawkettes and JetHawks youth camps can be found online at www.JetHawks.com. A new page contains pictures and biographies of each of the proud new Hawkettes!
