Daytona Beach Hawgs News Release
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla â In a week where they are giving away a free funeral, the Daytona Beach Hawgs have a couple of other things they'd like to bury as they prepare to face the Kissimmee Kreatures Monday night in their TUI Business Machines Field at the Ocean Center finale.
"If I could drop the game film from [last week's loss 58-34 loss at the hands of ] Everett in a casket, I would,'' said Head Coach/General Manager Ervin Bryson. "We're going to have to let the ghosts of that game go and move ahead to the next one."
Daytona Beach (6-3) is a half-game behind the Miami Morays in the National Indoor Football League's Atlantic South Division and is currently holding the third-best record in the Atlantic Conference. The Hawgs end the season with a four-game road trip.
"Monday's game gets us back on track,'' Bryson said.
Against Everett, the Hawgs gave up 41 first-half points and sputtered on offense â two of their three fourth quarter touchdowns came from defense and special teams â with five turnovers.
"We simply weren't into the game,'' Bryson said. "Nothing we can do about it now, though.
For the second straight game, the Hawgs will be without wide receiver Lucas Greene, who has work commitments. Daytona Beach is 1-3 in games without its NIFL All Star.
"Without Lucas, other defenses can key on Robert Bailey,'' Bryson said.
Bailey leads the league in all-purpose yardage, while Nick Allison leads in interceptions and John Bowman has the top marks in sacks, forced fumbles and tackles for loss.
Kissimmee (2-7) will come into the game 48 hours after a game with Miami. The Kreatures have not won on the road this season. Daytona Beach has won two previous encounters with Kissimmee this season.
"This is one of those games that has disaster written on it if we're not ready,'' Bryson said. "But we'll be ready.
The game features the unique promotion of a free funeral and burial plot courtesy of Lohman Funeral Homes, one of the team's most ardent sponsors this season.
