DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Twenty-five players were added to the Daytona Beach Hawgs roster Sunday afternoon after a spirited tryout camp at Municipal Stadium.

"We're taking steps in the right direction, but we're not quite there yet,'' said Hawgs coach Ervin Bryson. "Now it's just a matter of getting them into helmets and shoulder pads to see what they're really made of."

LB Levar Sims (6-1, 224, Bethune-Cookman)
DB Micah Simmons (5-10 168, Bethune-Cookman)
LB Sam Smalls (6-0, 215, Appalachian State)
DB Michael Taylor (5-11, 195, NW Mississippi)

"In the trenches, I'm excited,'' Bryson said. "That's where the game is won and lost, even in the indoor game. Butler stood out, and Moore showed me he can play. I admire him because he and Sam Smalls drove 14 hours to get here – that's the kind of ballplayer I'm looking for."

Approximately 60 participants were clocked in the 40-yard dash, shuttle runs, and position workouts.

"The local representation was solid, but I still think there's some diamonds in the rough around here,'' Bryson said.

The Hawgs' roster now stands at 33 players. Another tryout will be held in January. The Hawgs' debut season in the National Indoor Football League begins March 2005.
