DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Ervin Bryson loves to cook. Tommy Moody, Joe Giddens and Micah Simmons enjoy a good game of hoops on the weekend.

So when it came to making an appearance at a Daytona Beach three-on-three basketball tournament this weekend, there was no problem for the Daytona Beach Hawgs to represent.

It was the first community appearance for the National Indoor Football League franchise, who will make their debut in the Ocean Center March 2005.

With the outdoor football season all but winding down and indoor kickoff still a ways away, there are plenty of opportunities for coaches, players, and staff to get involved. On Friday, the Hawgs will march in the Daytona Beach Christmas Parade and will participate in the inaugural Holiday Youth Festival Saturday at Bethune-Cookman College.

While Moody, Giddens and Simmons took to the blacktop, Coach Bryson fired up the grill and served over 300 hot dogs and hamburgers to the participants and spectators.

The Hawgs were invited to participate by the City's Leisure Service Department, sponsors of the tournament.

Bryson appreciates being involved in the community since moving here two months ago.

"Daytona Beach has been good to us, so we're going to be good to Daytona Beach,'' Bryson said. "You'll see a lot of us in the next few months. I've enjoyed getting to know the people. For players like Joe, Tommy and Micah, this is home and they already involved."

As far as hoops goes, Giddens, Moody and Simmons struggled to a 3-2 record.

"Just couldn't get the shots to fall,'' Giddens said.
