Florida Tuskers News Release

Hartford, CT - The Hartford Colonials of the United Football League have added former University of Connecticut defensive end Lindsey Witten to the roster. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Witten, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as a free agent in April and worked out with the team as a linebacker. He was recently released.

"We're excited to have Lindsey on the team," said Colonials Head Coach and General Manager Chris Palmer. "We looked at him at the Pro Day at UConn. He went to Pittsburgh as an outsider linebacker. We will employ him as a defensive end. We think that it suits his skills and he will be able to excel as a defensive end."

As a senior at UConn, Witten was a First Team All-Big East selection. He led the conference with 11 1/2 sacks in 2009 and finished his collegiate career with 22, the fourth highest total by a UConn player since 1979.

Witten (6-4, 250), the younger brother of Buffalo Bills safety Donte Whitner, is one of six former UConn players on the Colonials roster. The other five are defensive back Dahna Deleston, running back Andre Dixon, offensive linemen Keith Gray and Mike Hicks, and linebacker Danny Lansanah.

Players report to training camp Aug. 16 and the first practice is scheduled for Aug. 18 at Sage Park in Berlin. The season opener is Sept. 18 against Sacramento at Rentschler Field in East Hartford with the kickoff set for 2:30 p.m.
