TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Storm is pleased to announce the return of 2015 All-Arena Defensive Back James Harrell.
"James is a playmaker," said Storm Vice President of Football Operations Jeff Gooch. "He is a ball hawk that has the ability to change the course of a game with a single play. We are proud to have James back in the blue and gold."
Harrell (5-foot-10, 195 lbs., Arkansas-Pine Bluff) returns for his fourth season with the Storm. The Plant H.S. (Tampa, FL) product turned in one of the best defensive performances in the Arena Football League last season, becoming one of the top defensive players in the League. Harrell led the team with seven interceptions and five fumble recoveries, in addition to finishing the year with 55.0 tackles, 12 pass breakups and a forced fumble, earning second team All-Arena honors.
Harrell's breakout performance occurred in a 63-28 victory over the Jacksonville Sharks during week six of the 2015 season. Throughout the game, Harrell made several plays that would result in a 42-point swing in favor of the Storm, with the Sharks not scoring (-21) and the Storm scoring on each turnover (+21).
"It feels great to be back with the Storm and playing for my hometown team," said Harrell. "Last season we fell short, but we are hungry and we want to get back to where we should be and that is the top."
Harrell began his career with the Storm in 2013. He's started in 32-of-33 games played, recording 148.0 tackles, 1.0 tackle for loss, 13 interceptions, 24 pass breakups, eight fumble recoveries and six defensive touchdowns. Harrell is currently tied with Nyle Wiren for third all-time in team history in fumble recoveries (8) and is tied with Corey Dowden for sixth all-time in team history in interceptions (12).
The Five-Time World Champion Tampa Bay Storm is entering its 25th season in Tampa Bay.
