Hannibal Cavemen News Release

Hannibal, MO: Two players from the 2011 Hannibal Cavemen roster have received post-season recognition from their college conferences. Catcher Michael Tucker of Anderson University was named Heartland Collegiate Conference Most Valuable Player; Chris Grayson of Lee University was named First-Team All Southern States Athletic Conference.

Tucker, a power hitting catcher, had a great season. He finished the year with a batting average of .433 with 16 HR's and 66 RBI in just 40 games. His 16 HR's rank second in the nation among all Division III players.

"The numbers Michael puts up are staggering," Jay Hemond, Cavemen Manager and Director of Baseball Operations explained. "He does it year in and year out which shows he truly is a quality hitter. Teams know his ability and try to pitch around him, but he stays disciplined and waits for his pitch. The Prospect League will be a good challenge for him. Hannibal is a place that could really boost his draft status among Major League scouts."

Outfielder Chris Grayson accumulated big stats on his way to All-Conference honors. Grayson hit .365 with eight doubles, 11 triples, five HR's and 45 RBI while also stealing 17 bases in 18 attempts. His 11 triples ramks #1 for NAIA Division. Lee University, ranked #7 nationally among NAIA schools, is participating in the Avista-NAIA World Series.

"Chris Grayson is one of those special players who possesses speed and power," said Hemond. "He can beat teams so many different ways. It will be exciting to see him all summer at Clemens Field."

The Hannibal Cavemen open the Prospect Season at Clemens Field on June 2 against the Dekalb Liners.
