Hamilton Nationals News Release
The Hamilton Nationals tied their team record for wins in a season after earning their seventh victory of the 2013 campaign Sunday afternoon. The Nationals used a five-point performance from Kevin Crowley to down the Rochester Rattlers 10-6 at Sahlen's Stadium.
Goalie Brett Queener made 16 saves and tied the team record for least amount of goals allowed in a game with six, as he held Rochester to single goals in the second and fourth, and two goals in the first and third quarters.
"Every week's big, but this week we really felt like we had to get the win," said Queener. "We had a 60-minute effort and it was a great team win."
Crowley extended his point streak to 25 games as he notched two goals and three assists. He also eclipsed the 40-point plateau for the first time in his Major League Lacrosse career. Joe Walters (2+1) increased his point streak to 22 games on a third-quarter assist to Garrett Thul (1+1+0), who scored the first two-point goal of his career. Brodie Merrill also reached a milestone, playing in his 100th MLL game.
Hamilton improved to 7-3 with the road win to remain in second place in Major League Lacrosse. The Rattlers dropped to 4-6 with their second loss to Hamilton in two weeks. The Nationals finished the season 2-0 against Rochester, defeating the Rattlers 17-11 in Boca Raton, Fla. on June 22nd.
The Nationals opened the scoring on Crowley's 28th of the season 1:10 into the contest. Rochester answered with two straight to take their only lead of the contest. Goals by veterans Matt Striebel and Kevin Leveille staked Rochester to a 2-1 edge. Hamilton closed out the quarter with Jordan Hall's power-play marker off a pretty feed from Crowley, who also netted his second of the contest.
Crowley set up both Hamilton markers in the second with Cody Jamieson (1+2) and Martin Cahill collecting goals. Kyle Denhoff scored the lone Rattlers' goal of the second quarter as Hamilton led 5-3 at halftime.
Hamilton pulled away in the third with a 4-0 run, which was highlighted by a two-pointer from Thul at 10:28. That goal was preceded by Jeremy Thompson's goal and was followed by a low shot from Walters that trickled by John Galloway. The Nationals grabbed a 9-4 lead following the outburst. Walters continued to produce against his old team, scoring from another tough angle at 2:22 of the fourth to give Hamilton a 10-5 advantage. Rochester's John Ranagan scored the only goal of the fourth quarter.
Hamilton begins a two-game homestand on Saturday, July 20th when it hosts the Ohio Machine at 7:30 p.m. For tickets go to www.nationalslacrosse.com or call the Nationals Ticket Office at (905) 525-NATS.
