June 7, 2004 - National Women's Football Association (NWFA)
Alabama Renegades News Release

The Renegades scored on their opening drive and never looked back in a 35-7 win over the Gulf Coast Herricanes.

The Renegades were again able to establish the running game as Nicole Nall rushed for 154 yards on 15 carries and scored two touchdowns. Katie Buckley carried the ball five times for 63 yards scoring one touchdown and fullback Teresa Finley grounded out 29 yards in eight carries. Quarterback Nancy Byrd rounded out the rushing attack running for 18 yards and scoring one touchdown.

The Renegade defense swarmed the Herricanes holding them to only seven points and making some outstanding defensive plays. Linebacker Vicki Kennedy again led the defense in tackles making nine solo tackles and one assist. Defensive end Ashley Moody and cornerback Katie Buckley weren't far behind Kennedy with both getting five solo hits and two assists. The Gulf Coast quarterback was intercepted three times by the defense. Strong safety Bird Gholston, linebacker Kim Lee, and safety Sonya Massey each made an interception. Linebacker Tammy Wissel was able to score a touchdown after picking up a fumble and running it in from 37 yards out. Lineman Shana Hammond made the bone crushing hit to cause the fumble.

The Alabama Renegades will play their final game of the season this Saturday, June 12 at Goldsmith Schiffman Field. The Renegades (5-3) will face the New Orleans Blaze (5-2). Although the Pensacola Power has aleady won the Gulf Coast Division Title, the Renegades and Blaze will be fighting it out for second place.
