Guelph Nighthawks News Release

Guelph, ON - Today the Guelph Nighthawks professional basketball club, a founding team of the Canadian Elite Basketball League, and the YMCA of Three Rivers, which represents YMCA's located in Guelph, Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo and Stratford, announced a partnership to deliver two new youth basketball programs in those cities. The partnership will see the Nighthawks staff coach the YMCA's existing youth basketball program under the re-branded name Y-Hawks Basketball. In addition, the Nighthawks will bring its 8-week, professionally coached Hoops Development Series program for youth aged 9-16 to the YMCA starting January 17, 2022.

The partnership will provide existing YMCA of Three Rivers members with access to exclusive discounts on Hoops Development Series registrations and 2022 Guelph Nighthawks regular season tickets. In addition, Guelph Nighthawks ticket holders will receive exclusive discounts on YMCA memberships in the Three Rivers region.

"As we build towards our fourth season in Guelph one of our key goals has been to reconnect with our community and make the sport of basketball more accessible to all. The YMCA and the Nighthawks both have long-standing traditions in supporting the health and wellbeing of our community. This partnership will allow each of us to better deliver on that objective by making the sport of basketball accessible to our youth, no matter their skillset, while helping to grow the game through our coaching staff and in the process develop future Nighthawks" said Cameron Kusch, President of the Guelph Nighthawks.

"The YMCA of Three Rivers is incredibly excited to begin our new partnership with the Guelph Nighthawks. The Y is a place of community, friendship, and skill development for children and youth; it is also where basketball was first invented! Through this partnership we will be able to strengthen our recreational basketball programs for youth by having the skilled coaching staff from the Nighthawks facilitate the new Y-Hawks Basketball program," stated Melissa Haynes, Manager of Youth and Community Programs for the YMCA of Three Rivers. "In addition, we are thrilled to have the YMCA become the home of the Nighthawks Hoops Development Series program, giving youth the opportunity to access elite level basketball skill development programs. Our YMCA of Three Rivers communities look forward to 2022 with the Nighthawks!"

The Nighthawks Hoops Development Series allows youth aged 9-16 that are looking to take the next step in their basketball training to receive high calibre coaching from the Guelph Nighthawks coaching staff in small groups which allows for more one-on-one style training.
