ST. JOHN'S, NL - The Newfoundland Growlers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced today that the club has signed Canadian guard Jahvon Blair for the upcoming 2022 CEBL season.
A six-foot-four guard from Oakville, Ontario, Blair is currently suiting up in the Korisliiga, the top-tier of Finnish professional basketball, with KTP Basket. In 14 appearances this season, the 24-year-old is averaging 12.0 points, 4.1 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 0.9 steals per game in Finland.
Blair turned pro last spring after spending four seasons in the NCAA with Georgetown University. After declaring for the 2021 NBA Draft, he briefly joined Lavrio of the Greek Basket League last summer before heading to Finland this past January.
During his time at Georgetown, Blair was named to the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team in his rookie 2017-18 season where he averaged 9.0 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 21.5 minutes per game. After a slight regression in his sophomore campaign, Blair found his feet with the Hoyas in his final two collegiate seasons - his senior year his best statistical effort with 15.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game, all while helping the school secure its first NCAA tournament berth since 2015.
Prior to beginning his collegiate career, Blair attended Athlete Institute Prep in Mono, Ontario- boasting plenty of notable alumni, including NBA stars Jamal Murray and Lugentz Dort. In his senior high school season, Blair averaged 23.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game at Athlete Institute, while also earning MVP Honours in the 2016 Bio Steel All-Canadian Game.
Blair becomes the third player to sign with Newfoundland ahead of the upcoming 2022 season.
