Great Falls to be known as Cowboys, bring on Young

January 21, 2005 (Great Falls, MT) - The Great Falls, Montana team in the All American Professional Basketball League will be known as the Great Falls "Cowboys" the league announced today. Also, the league announced that Kermit Young will become the first Vice President of Basketball Operations/Interim Director of Sales and Marketing for the Cowboys.

AAPBL President Worth Chritie said, "We're excited about building this thing in Great Falls." "Today we are taking the next step in putting a face on this team and making it a tangible entity." "I've always been a fan of Charley Russell artwork and I think the name "Cowboys" gives us a strong tie to the west and a strong theme to work from with our entertainment, things that Cowboy fans will enjoy."

In addition, Kermit Young was introduced as the Vice President of Basketball Operations/Interim Director of Sales and Marketing of the Cowboys. Christie said "Kermit is a well known person in the Great Falls community and brings a wealth of basketball experience to the AAPBL." Christie went on to say, "Kermit is a high energy person, with a strong work ethic, the kind of characteristics we need to make this league work."

"I am very excited about this league, i think it's going to be a great financial shot in the arm for Great Falls," said Young. "I think this league is going to give alot of young players who have fallen through the cracks the opportunity to play professionally, develop their skills and play overseas and make sizable salaries or perhaps make it to the NBA."

Young was born in Great Falls, Montana and raised in Fairfield, Montana where he graduated from high school. Young attended Montana State receiving numberous accolades while playing for the Bobcats.

Young's basketball background includes 315 winsas a high school coach in California. His experience also includes as time as an assistant at two NCAA Division One universities. Young has also served as head coach at Napa Valley College where in seven years his teams compiled a 130-79 record, including one league championship. Each year Young's team qualified for the state junior college tournament. He has also spent two years scouting for an Italian professional basketball team. He has also coached a national championship team in India. Young has worked closely with the United States Basketball Academy in Eugene, Oregon for several years as a coach/clinician and has worked with a number of professional teams and players in that arena.
