Bellingham Slam News Release
BELLINGHAM, Wash. - A season-high 29 points by guard Ira Graham helped propel the Bellingham Slam to a 129-113 victory over the Vancouver Volcanoes in International Basketball League play on Friday at Whatcom Pavilion.
The Slam, playing less than 24 hours after suffering a 116-113 loss to the Portland Chinooks in Beaverton, Ore., on Thursday, started the game sluggish and trailed 29-26 after the first quarter.
Vancouver continued to lead through the second quarter, until guard Morris Anderson closed the half with six of the Slam's last nine points to take a 55-53 lead into halftime.
The Slam controlled the second half, posting 74 points and maxing out their lead at 21 points in the middle stages of the fourth quarter.
Forward Michael Duty capped the win with a monster dunk in the game's closing minutes.
Graham's team-high 29 points came on an efficient 10-for-13 shooting night from the field. Duty narrowly missed out on a double-double, finishing with 19 points and nine rebounds.
Andre Murray led the Volcanoes with a game-high 31 points.
The Slam continue their homestand with a game on Memorial Day, May 30, against the Portland Chinooks. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. at Whatcom Pavilion.
