New Jersey Ironmen News Release

Newark, N.J. (Thursday, October 16, 2008) - New Jersey Ironmen midfielder Goran Vasic will spearhead a crew from the Ironmen on Saturday when they head to the Emmett Recreation Center for Fall Fest Soccer Day, hosted by the Florham Park Youth Soccer Association (FPYSA). Along with a full slate of soccer matches on tap, the FPYSA will be collecting gently-used soccer equipment as part of their "Share the Equipment, Share the Game" drive starting at 9:00 a.m.

"I applaud the Florham Park Youth Soccer Association in hosting an event for such a great cause," Vasic commented. "There are many parts of the community and in the country where people want to play soccer, but they cannot necessarily afford to play. Equipment drives such as this will provide many people with an opportunity to play soccer, something they would not have had otherwise."

The FPYSA will be collecting cleats, shin guards, uniforms, balls, bags and backpacks for the Passback Program, a joint effort between the U.S. Soccer Foundation, Eurosport, Major League Soccer and professional soccer players to help meet the soccer uniform and equipment needs of all communities, regardless of income, gender or location. They will also be conducting raffles for various prizes throughout the day, and games will be played until 1:00 p.m. between teams of players ranging in age from Pre-K to fifth grade.

Vasic, a USSF-A licensed coach, was born in Belgrade, Serbia, and moved to the United States in May of 1997. He started his American soccer career with the Houston Hotshots of the Continental Indoor Soccer League and recently completed his 11th season in professional indoor soccer. Vasic, member of two indoor league championship teams, played for the Cleveland Crunch during 1998-2001 before playing for the Philadelphia KiXX from 2001-06. After a year with the Milwaukee Wave, he made the move to Newark by signing with the Ironmen prior to the 2007-08 season. For his indoor career, he has tallied 584 points to go along with 223 assists and 154 blocks.

The New Jersey Ironmen will make their 2008-09 season debut at Prudential Center on Sunday, December 14th, opening up their sophomore campaign at 4:00 p.m. against the Chicago Storm. The Ironmen provide fun and affordable family entertainment with tickets starting at only $10! Don't miss out on the action! Call 1-800-IRONMEN today!
