Week 3 - June 19th
California Division Pitcher & Player of the Week:
Steve Newson, Chico Outlaws, has been selected as the California Division player of the week. The hard-hitting Chico State graduate went 10-18 with six walks and six runs scored in six games. The outfielder hit a league-leading .556 for the week with a .889 slugging percentage, including a double, triple and homerun. His .667 on-base pecentage led the league and he stole a pair of bases as well.
Seth Johnson, Chico Outlaws, is the California Division pitcher of the week. Seth, a 24 year-old from Sandy, Utah, threw the first no-hitter in GBL history when he blanked the Japan Samurai Bears in the second game of a June 19th double-header. He was only a walk away from a perfect game. On the week, Seth struck out 12 and walked only two, as he made a relief appearance as well.
Arizona Division Player & Pitcher of the Week:
Desi Wilson, Surprise Fightin' Falcons, is the Arizona Division player of the week. Desi, an outfielder with major league experience in both the U.S. and Japan, led the GBL with 13 hits during the week. He hit .464 , including with four doubles, and scored four runs.
Hideki Nagasaka, Japan Samurai Bears, is the Arizona Division pitcher of the week. Nagasaka-san won 2 game while losing none, had an E.R.A. of 0.90, and struck out 11 in ten innings. He pitched a complete game 3-2 victory for the Samurai Bears over Chico on June 17th.
