GLIFL Week Eight Preview
Published on May 25, 2006 under Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) News Release
While the majority of the GLIFL enjoys its last regular season bye week, Battle Creek travels to Lehigh Valley after both teams received a much-needed week off. The Crunch look to bounce back after giving up 28 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to Rochester, while Lehigh Valley is looking to keep the momentum going from a strong defensive effort in a 38-18 win over NY/NJ.

PRE-GAME NOTES
MOMENTUM: Battle Creek was again killed by momentum, as they could not stop Rochester from scoring 28 unanswered in the fourth quarter of a 34-27 game. The team fell to 0-3 at home (their lone win was at Marion). Lehigh Valley, which has had offensive trouble since scoring 58 against the Revolution in their first meeting, looks to take advantage of any momentum they can create. Battle Creek, though, looks to do the same. The Outlawz gave up 27 unanswered in Port Huron in the second and third quarters, ending any chances they had of winning. They also gave up 63 points in the first half at Rochester in the 90-45 loss. The team that takes advantage of whatever momentum swing comes naturally in the football game will likely win.
BATTLE OF THE KICKERS: A rare treat this weekend as GLIFL fans get to witness a game with two experienced kickers playing. Crunch kicker Brad Selent has kicked for the Detroit Fury of the AFL, while Chris Reed of the Outlawz kicked in 2004 for the NIFL's Sioux City Bandits. Both will enjoy the friendly confines of the league's largest arena. That is, unless neither team needs to try a field goal. Of course, both kickers have made over 80% of their extra point kicks, as well.
THE WEEK OFF HELPS THE WOUNDED: Lehigh Valley has been ravaged by the injury bug all season, but welcomes back defensive standout T.K. Ford. Ford leads the team with two interceptions on the year, and will help against an improving Crunch passing game.
GAME PREVIEW: Though the Outlawz are 3-2, two of the wins are against winless NY/NJ (though the Revolution are improving every week). The team is still down from the two beatings taken in Port Huron and Rochester. Battle Creek won a big game in Marion, then got beat down in the fourth quarter against the Raiders. This will be a hard fought game between two teams that desperately need a win. Battle Creek still holds the tiebreaker over Marion for the last playoff spot, but now find themselves two wins down. Lehigh Valley needs the win to avoid being tied with Marion (though they hold the tiebreaker there, as well). These teams meet again on June 10 in Battle Creek.
