GLIFL Semi-Final Players of the Week
Published on July 12, 2006 under Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) News Release
Big players come up big in big games. The GLIFL playoffs began with one big name having yet another huge game, while a defensive player made a first-time Player of the Week name for himself with a great performance. Rayshawn Askew won his fourth Yellowbook.com Offensive Player of the Week Award while Rochester's Gerald Dias won his first CreativelySain Defensive Player of the Week Award.
YELLOWBOOK.COM OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - RB RAYSHAWN ASKEW, PORT HURON PIRATES
Askew's fourth award came with another six-touchdown performance. Unlike last time, when he set records for carries, yards, and rushing touchdowns, Rayshawn's six touchdowns came on only ten touches. He ran for 50 yards and five touchdowns on only eight carries, while returning two kickoffs for 58 yards and a 41-yard touchdown. His exploits helped Port Huron score 10 touchdowns on 11 offensive possessions.
CREATIVELY SAIN DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - DB GERALD DIAS, ROCHESTER RAIDERS
There is something about Lehigh Valley that gives Rochester defenders big games. Gerald Dias added to the collection with 10.5 tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble. His performance helped shut down the Outlawz offense in the second half of Rochester's 58-27 semifinal win.
