Gladiators Relocate to Las Vegas

Published on December 20, 2002 under Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release

LAS VEGAS – The Gladiators are relocating from New Jersey to Las Vegas and will play their 2003 home games at the Thomas & Mack Center. The move is effective immediately.

Tickets are on sale today for the Las Vegas Gladiators at 702-739-FANS or through the UNLV Tickets Web site (www.unlvtickets.com).

"I am thrilled to bring Arena Football to Las Vegas," said Las Vegas Gladiators owner JIM FERRARO. "Las Vegas is one of the fastest-growing cities in the country and is hungry for professional sports – especially football. We hope to be the preeminent pro sports franchise in Las Vegas for many years to come."

The Gladiators are relocating to Las Vegas from New Jersey because the team's lease with Continental Airlines Arena is prohibitive.

The team will remain in the AFL's Eastern Division for the 2003 season and all coaches and players will remain intact. The team also retains all colors, logos and records.

The Gladiators are the defending Eastern Division Champions and finished 2002 with a 9-5 record. The team lost in the quarterfinals of the 2002 playoffs to the Orlando Predators.
