Gibson's Walk off Gives Force 5-4 Win

Philadelphia Force News Release

ALLENTOWN, PA - With the stage set in the bottom of the seventh in a tie ball game, Megan Gibson stepped to the plate looking to win the game for the Force. Clare Burnum, who reached on a fielder's choice, was on third, and Jami Lobpries, another fielder's choice recipient, was on first. Gibson took a pitch from USSSA Pride pitcher, Desiree Serrano, and drove it through the right side, plating Burnum, and giving the Force a walk off victory to end the night.

Gibson started off the scoring in the game for the Force, driving in veteran, Trena Peel, in the bottom of the first to give her team a 1-0 lead. Gibson would go 3-for-4 with three RBI's and a run scored, driving in her third run on a double in the sixth inning.

In the bottom of the third inning, Burnum scored the first of her two runs scored on a Peel single, after advancing to second with a stolen base.

In the circle for Philadelphia was rookie, Kristin Erb, who put together another solid showing. Erb was flawless through five innings, allowing only four base runners through those first five. The sixth inning saw Erb run into some trouble, but three of the four runs scored were unearned in the inning. Erb's line for the game was six innings, nine hits, four runs, one earned, one walk, and one strikeout. Margo Pruis threw the seventh inning, earning the win for the Force, by going one shutout inning, with a walk and strikeout.

Starting for the Pride was Monica Abbott. Abbott went three innings, three hits, two runs, one earned, and four strikeouts. Serrano relieved Abbott for three and two thirds, giving up five hits, three runs, all of them earned, two walks, and two strikeouts.

The exciting victory was in the fourth game of the series between the two clubs. They have alternated wins and losses so far, the Pride winning the first and third, and the Force taking the second and fourth. Tomorrow's game will be the final one of the season for the Force, as they look to use the momentum from Gibson's walk off to win the series and push forward to next season.
