Georgia Gwizzlies to Open Tryout Camp to Women

Published on July 8, 2008 under American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Macon, GA. The ABA Georgia Gwizzlies will be making team history when it conducts its Open Tryout on October 25th. Both men and women will be invited to tryout. The Gwizzlies tryout at Memorial Park Basketball Gym will host the event from 10-4pm. "With the success of the WNBA, I think someday a woman will suit up on an NBA uniform," said Embry Malone, Gwizzlies owner. "And in the NBA, they don't pay the big money just to suit up. You have to be able to play."

Malone, a veteran GM and head coach, really believes that there are several talented women who could compete in the NBA if given a chance. "I watched Becky Hammon play this weekend against the Washington Mystics. She can play," said Malone. "We'd like her to tryout in October, as an example."
