Georgia Swarm News Release
TORONTO, Ontario - The Georgia Swarm took its second loss in a row to the Toronto Rock as they fell, 16-7 on the road.
Two Swarm players hit incredible feats last night in Jeremy Thompson and Shayne Jackson. Jeremy Thompson became the eight-leader all-time in career NLL loose ball pick-ups, totaling 1,565. Jackson entered the night needing three points to achieve his 700th career point and achieved that milestone after notching one goal and three assists.
The Georgia Swarm (0-7) was all around successful on the power play, denying 2-of-3 (67 percent) Toronto Rock (8-2) man-up opportunities. The Swarm offense took advantage and scored on all four power plays. Lyle Thompson scored the first man-up goal in the third frame with Andrew Kew, Lyle Thompson, and Bryan Cole, scoring three-straight power play goals in the fourth.
Toronto opened the game with five-straight goals, holding Georgia scoreless until five minutes into the second quarter. Jackson nabbed one goal and Lyle Thompson recorded two in the second frame, inching the score to 6-4 at the half after being down 5-0.
After halftime, the Rock went on an eight-goal run, jumping out to a 15-4 lead. Kew, Lyle Thompson, and Cole answered with three-straight Swarm goals, but the momentum wasn't enough for the Swarm to rally back.
Lyle Thompson led the team in points (5) and goals (3) while Jackson followed in points with four (1G, 3A). Cole (1G, 2A), Brendan Bomberry (3A), and Kew (2G, 1A) all tallied three-points each in the affair with Jeremy Thompson and Seth Oakes helping one goal each.
Adam Wiedemann and Will Cecile blocked two shots each with Oakes leading the squad in caused turnovers, forcing two. Brett Dobson started between the pipes, playing 42:02 minutes, recording 25 saves. Craig Wende hopped in net during the third quarter, totaling 10 saves across 17:58 minutes.
The Swarm come back to Duluth, Ga. this Saturday, on the hunt for their first win of the season. On Feb. 25, the squad debut their School Spirit Night jerseys, honoring local schools and lacrosse programs in the area.
