North Iowa Bulls News Release
MASON CITY, Iowa - Two big games against the Minot Minotauros in October helped North Iowa goaltender Hunter Garvey lock down a North American Hockey League Central Division Star of the Week award and anchor a winning streak for the Bulls.
Five weeks later, the territory the North Iowa netminder is traversing seems awfully familiar.
Garvey was named the Central Division's Star of the Week once again on Monday, earning the Bulls' third such award this season and second in a row, after Carter Rapalje's honor last week.
The San Diego, California native led the Bulls to a weekend sweep of the Austin Bruins, making 64 saves on 69 shots and putting his team back in first place in the division with a game in hand. He made 33 saves in Friday's 3-2 shootout win over the Bruins, adding stops on three of Austin's four chances in the shootout. Saturday night, Garvey made 31 more saves in a 5-3 win, each save more sensational than the last. His eight wins this season is tied for sixth in the NAHL.
"Through his solid play this season, Hunter has given us a chance every night to stay in and win games and this weekend was the perfect example," said North Iowa head coach and general manager Todd Sanden. "He made the key and necessary saves for us to pick up two big wins."
The Bulls have just one game on the schedule this week, as they square off with the St. Cloud Norsemen for the very first time on Saturday night. The opening puck drop at the St. Cloud Municipal Athletic Complex is slated for 7 p.m., with live streaming coverage on HockeyTV and Mixlr.
North Iowa returns to home ice on Saturday, November 27 for their Black Friday weekend battle against the Bruins. Fans are encouraged to wear black to that night's game, and black t-shirts will be available for sale the night of the game as well.
Tickets for that game and all North Iowa home games are on sale now - to purchase advance tickets to any upcoming Bulls home game, call 641-423-4625 or click here.
