Philadelphia Soul News Release
PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Philadelphia Soul (4-4) return to Albany, N.Y. for the first time since Week 1 to face the Albany Empire (5-3) at the Times Union Center this Saturday, June 16. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. The Soul are 1-1 against the Empire in 2018.
The highly anticipated QB matchup this week will be between Soul QB Shane Austin and Empire QB Tommy Grady. During his debut with the Soul, Austin totaled 18 completions on 33 attempts for 302 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions. Meanwhile, AFL Veteran Tommy Grady leads the league in yards (1,928) and touchdowns (49).
You can anticipate some fireworks and highlight reel catches from the league's top three wide receivers in this one as the Soul's Darius Prince and the Empire's Joe Hills and Malachi Jones have combined for more than 2,100 receiving yards and 50 touchdowns so far this season.
As for the defense, we'll be looking to see if Soul DB LaRico Stevenson can make it three straight games with an interception. Also watch out for one of the Soul's newest additions, DL Willie McGinnis, as he goes up against his former team. McGinnis was a member of the Empire until Week 8 of this season, when he was released and then picked up by the Soul.
"It's going to be an extremely competitive game," said McGinnis. "But I am looking forward to suiting up with the Soul and taking care of business."
With playoffs on the horizon, the Soul are focused on finishing the regular season strong, as a win this week would put the team in a tie for second place in the league with three games to go, including one more head-to-head matchup against the Empire. A win for Albany this week would mean a shot at the top seed as they catch up to the Baltimore Brigade.
