Fury Fall to Desperados

DALLAS, TEXAS-Andy McCullough scored his fifth touchdown of the game with three seconds left to lift the Dallas Desperados past the Detroit Fury 61-54 Saturday night in front of 11,552 at American Airlines Center. Dallas improved to 7-5 while the Fury dropped to 1-11 and finished the season winless on the road (0-7).

Dallas took it to the Fury in the opening frame, outscoring the club from Detroit 21-3. QB Andy Kelly found Shannon Culver on the opening drive for a five-yard TD at 12:25. The Fury could only muster a 32-yard Brad Selent field goal on their first drive at 7:53. McCullough pulled in his first of the night at 5:20 when he corralled a 21-yard toss from Kelly. Adrian Lunsford closed out the scoring in the first quarter at 2:28 with a six-yard TD reception.

In the second quarter, Shawndel Tucker made a spectacular 11-yard touchdown catch from Scott Semptimphelter at 13:19. McCullough found the paint off a three-yard pass from Kelly at 9:26. Dallas came up strong once again on defense and Selent drilled a 41-yard field goal at 3:39. McCullough added his third of the evening at 2:33 before Semptimphelter found Al Hunt for a 23-yard TD with 21 seconds left in the half.

Eric England scored his first TD of the season off a one-yard run at 12:35 of the third quarter before McCullough and Kelly hooked up again, this time off a 20-yard TD pass at 10:07. Errick Herrin dashed into the endzone for a two-yard TD at 5:28 for the Fury. Detroit's defense stepped up and forced Dallas to accept a 43-yard Jason Wells field goal at 1:10. Semptimphelter found a wide-open Tucker with 24 ticks of the clock remaining to bring the score to 45-39 in favor of Dallas.

Ty Grovesteen collected a seven-yard pass from Semptimphelter at 7:27 of the fourth before Tim Martin scored off an 11-yard toss from Kelly at 3:08. Detroit held Dallas to a 30-yard field goal from Wells with 52 seconds left. Tucker scored his third of the game with 26 seconds left and Semptimphelter hit Hunt on the two-point conversion to tie the game. Kelly's pass intended for Culver, deflected through his hands and into McCullough's for the win.

The Fury returns home to finish out the regular with the final two games at the Palace of Auburn Hills. On Saturday, July 13, the Tampa Bay Storm rolls into town before Detroit closes out the season against the Grand Rapids Rampage on Friday, July 19. Both games kick off at 7:30 PM.
