From the Lone Star Strikers to the Delaware 87ers, Tiny Gallon's NBA dream continues
March 28, 2014 - International Basketball League (IBL) News Release
Since arriving in the NBA D-League for the second time in his career, Tiny Gallon has made the most of his latest stint. As a member of the Delaware 87ers, a first-year franchise in the NBADL, Gallon has turned heads with his impressive stat lines.
On the season, Gallon is averaging just shy of a double-double (19.8 points, and 9.8 rebounds), and has scored 30 points or more in 7 of his 29 games for Delaware. His outstanding play snagged the interest of a few clubs overseas this season, but Gallon reportedly turned down a contract to play in China to stay in the NBADL.
"It wasn't a tough decision besides the financial part, my team and I have a plan and we're sticking to it," Gallon commented.
That plan is to ultimately play in the NBA, and Gallon recently shed light on his overall development as a player, and as a person, "I know that I have to show everyone more consistency, but I think I'm doing that now. I'm showing everyone that I've been putting in the time on the basketball court, and that I'm a young man now."
Gallon was claimed by Delaware from the NBADL player pool back on December 30, and before his decision to play in the NBA D-League, Gallon spent time in mini-camp with the New York Knicks. However, Gallon's recent trip back into the minds of NBA personnel can be linked to last June, when the 6'9'', 290 pound post player played back-to-back games for the LoneStar Strikers in the IBL.
According to Gallon, "Playing two games for the Strikers really helped me get back and see where I was at in terms of playing shape. I really enjoyed playing two games with them."
Gallon averaged 22.5 points, and 9.0 rebounds in 32.5 minutes for the Strikers, and despite only spending a weekend in the IBL, it clearly had an impact on his current quest to the NBA. Gallon has impressed plenty of NBA decision makers so far, and if the 23-year-old can continue his dominating play, he will likely receive an NBA opportunity in the near future.
