Frisco Thunder Playoff Situation Update
June 23, 2008 - Intense Football League (Intense)
Frisco Thunder News Release
FRISCO, Tex. (June 19, 2008) -- Two out of three may not have been bad for Meat Loaf, but it didn't help the Frisco Thunder clinch an Intense Football League playoff berth despite being idle Saturday night.
Two losses by other teams -- The Alaska Wild's 88-13 loss to the Louisiana Swashbucklers and the Katy Ruff Riders' 51-48 loss to the San Angelo Stampede Express -- gave the Thunder some leeway heading into the team's final regular season game, but a third loss -- by the Odessa Roughnecks -- didn't happen and left the settling of one of the final two post-season playoff spots in play a little longer.
It's still relatively simple: If Frisco (6-7) beats San Angelo on Saturday, it's in the playoffs.
But if the Thunder lose, Frisco needs Odessa (6-7) to beat Katy (5-8) and Fairbanks (2-10) to defeat Alaska (5-8) to back into the post-season.
If there's a four-way tie at 6-8 between Odessa, Frisco, Katy and Alaska, Frisco's the odd-team out due to having a combined 2-4 record in head-to-head play among the four teams
Odessa clinched a berth with a 59-50 victory over the Fairbanks Grizzlies. The Thunder faces San Angelo (4-9) Saturday at 7 p.m.
