Fresno Fuego Fall to Southern California

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Fuego (USL Premier Development League) played their second of three home matches this week against the Southern California Surf on Saturday at Chukchansi Park. It was the first meeting of the season between the clubs. The Surf prevailed in the second half to win 2-1.

The Fuego opened the scoring, 1-0, in the fourth minute with a goal from midfielder Jose Cuevas. He received a pass in the left of the box from midfielder Diego Casillas and fired it into the back of the net for his team-leading seventh goal of the season.

The Surf tied the match 1-1 in the 35th minute. Fresno goalkeeper Augie Rey misplayed the ball to Surf midfielder Adam Vargas in the box and he chipped the ball over the keeper's head into the back of the net to take a tie score to halftime.

In the second half the Zest took a 2-1 lead when they were awarded a penalty kick in the 52nd minute. Adam Vargas scored his second goal of the match when he roofed the ball into the net.

The Fuego return to the pitch on Thursday, June 15 against the Ventura County Fusion at Chukchansi Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
