Fort Wayne Freedom News Release

Fort Wayne Freedom head coach, "Touchdown" Eddie Brown, has announced that the team has reached an agreement with Bishop Luers graduate and University of Saint Francis All-American linebacker, Brian Kurtz, to play for the Freedom during their 2008 season. Kurtz will join approximately 35 other hopefuls when the Freedom opens training camp next March.

Kurtz is the leading tackler in the history of Bishop Luers and USF. He was a three-time NAIA All-American playing linebacker for the Cougars from 2003-2006, finishing with 388 total tackles (33.0 for loss), five interceptions and 9.5 sacks. Following his senior year Kurtz was named the MSFA Mideast League player of the year, leading USF to their third consecutive national title game appearance and eighth straight MSFA MEL league title. He also set a single-season school record by amassing 128 tackles (61 solo) his senior year.

"I am looking forward to coaching someone with Brian's abilities and skills", coach Brown commented. "It is very obvious when speaking with Brian that he has a true passion and desire to succeed at this game no matter what level. He dictates the tempo and attitude of whatever defense he has ever been a part of and that is exciting. I also feel happy for him because he gets to continue a career that began over 10 years ago right here in Fort Wayne and do it front of the same fans that have watched him become the player he is today".

Season tickets for the 2008 Fort Wayne Freedom season are on sale now. Fans can purchase tickets by calling 471-FREE (3733) or by attending the team's Open House/Select-A-Seat event Tuesday, November 13th at the Memorial Coliseum. The event will run from 3:00pm-8:00pm and Freedom players, coaches and front office staff will be on hand to answer any questions and talk Freedom Football !
