Freedom finalizes agreement with CIFL to play in 2008

(Fort Wayne, IN) The Fort Wayne Freedom, first-year member of the Continental Indoor Football League, has finalized an agreement with the CIFL to field a team in 2008. After a week of debate and uncertainty, league owners Jeff and Eric Spitaleri approved a contract with Freedom owner Todd Ellis.

"I am very pleased to announce the Fort Wayne Freedom has a deal with the CIFL to play football in 2008 and beyond," said Ellis. "The CIFL is where we wanted to be and I am very happy and excited for Fort Wayne. So let's play some Football!"

The agreement was reached after several days of meetings between Freedom and CIFL officials after Ellis terminated General Manager Mike McCaffrey, Ticket Director Lauren Kruman and Head Coach Eddie Brown. Following the advice of legal counsel, Ellis has not discussed the personnel changes and has retained an accounting firm to conduct an audit of the franchise.

"I am very happy that this situation has been resolved," said Jeff Spitaleri. "With the season opening in less than 2 months, we can all concentrate our efforts on providing the best possible quality family entertainment available. The fans in Fort Wayne have been incredibly patient through all this, and it's unfortunate that it took so long to finalize everything, but we're confident that they will not be disappointed with the Freedom both on and off the field. The people of Fort Wayne deserve only the best."

The Freedom's inaugural season begins with a pre-season match-up against the Milwaukee Bonecrushers on Sunday, March 9th at Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne. The Freedom's regular season kicks off with a home game on Friday, March 21st against the Miami Valley Silverbacks.
