Lewis "Bam" Carter, returning linebacker from the University of Cincinnati, adds to the already stout defense of the 2009 Freedom. "Nowhere else I want to play, our fans are awesome. We want to reward their support with a championship," answered Bam when asked why he is returning for a 7th season.

David Gater, 2008 CIFL Most Valuable Player, is joining the Freedom this year. "When my teammates from Kalamazoo started coming here, I wanted in too. I figured there had to be a reason why everyone wanted to play for Coach Land." Gater led the CIFL with 18 interceptions and finished second with 60.5 tackles.

Purdue defensive back Aaron Lane is excited to join the Freedom as he prepares for his first Defense of the Fort. "Having Aaron with Scotty, Gater and Dre, we are pretty comfortable with our secondary," Land stated. Assuredly, the Freedom backfield will be one of the toughest in the upcoming season. Lane began his collegiate career at the University of St. Francis prior to transferring to Purdue.
