Fourth Week Brings Reality
Published on May 5, 2003 under National Women's Football Association (NWFA) News Release
Nashville, TN-The National Women's Football League just completed it's fourth weekend of play with several teams at or nearing the half way point of the season. The race is on for the National Women's Football association Championship.
The showstopper game of this weeks action was the (3-1) Alabama Renegades win over the (1-2) Asheville Assault 20-19. Carla Glick, who has been with the Renegades since the very first exhibition season in 2000, scored the winning TD with less than 30 seconds left on the clock. Glick, who has been one of the most consistent players over the past three seasons showed why she's a contender for a league MVP. The (2-0) DC Divas let everyone know that they are planning on being in the action with a convincing 32-7 win over the (1-2) Pittsburgh Passion. The Divas numbers back up their score, with 103 passing yards and 360 rushing yards, compared to the Passions 36 yards passing and 72 yards rushing. "Many of our new expansion teams are feeling the power of the more experienced teams from the past two seasons and having a hard time getting any points on the boards," states Catherine Masters, NWFA CEO. REALITY is setting in. "Becoming good at a brand new sport takes some time," adds Masters. In other games, Jenny Stevenson of the (2-1) Nashville Dream, who's played since the beginning of the league with the Dream, dazzled the crowd and showed her experience with a 55 yard kickoff return touchdown, in the game against the (1-3) Knoxville Summit. The (4-0) Pensacola Power kept its perfect record...perfect with a huge win over the (0-3) Biloxi Herricanes. One of the highlights of that game was a 75 yard pass play from Power QB Sonia Kirchharr to Wide Receiver Emily Morgan. Our congratulations to these outstanding players!
This weekend's match ups include: (2-1) Kansas City Krunch @ Evansville Express, (2-1) Oklahoma City Lightning @ (1-2) St. Louis Slam, (2-0) Connecticut Crush @ (3-0) Mass Mutiny, (0-3) Rochester Raptors @ (3-1) Philadelphia Phoenix, (0-4) Atlanta Leopards @ (1-2) Asheville Assault, (1-1) Tennessee Venom @ (2-1) Nashville Dream, (1-2) Toledo Spitfire @ (3-0) Detroit Demolition, (0-2) Indiana Thunder @ (1-2) SW Michigan Jags, (0-3) Erie Illusion @ (2-1) Baltimore Burn and (2-0) DC Divas @ (2-1) Columbus Flames.
