Four Nationals Named to MLL All-Star Game

(Hamilton, Ontario)... Four members of the Hamilton Nationals were selected to participate in the 2011 Sports Authority MLL All-Star Game at Harvard Stadium on Saturday, June 9th. Goalie Joe Marra, faceoff man Geoff Snider, midfielder Joe Walters and defenseman Brodie Merrill were among the 40 players selected to play in the 7:00 p.m. event in Boston, Mass.

The players will learn what team they will play for at the All-Star selection event at Harvard Stadium on Friday, July 8th, as part of the All-Star Kickoff Party at 7:00 p.m. The selection event is free and open to the public. The two winners of the MLL Ultimate Fan Fantasy Contest will be the captains of the two All-Star teams will get to pick their teams. The annual event is one of MLL's biggest events of the season and features the popular Bud Light Skills Competition and the all-new Goalie Gauntlet. The MLL All-Star Game will air live on ESPN2.

Marra, who will play in his first All-Star Game, has a 1-1 record this season and is sixth in the MLL with a 12.77 goals-against average. He is also sixth in saves with 38. He earned his first professional win in his first professional start on June 10th in Rochester.

Snider will play in his second MLL All-Star Game after suiting up for the 2007 event. The faceoff man leads the Nationals with 59 faceoff wins and has the second most ground balls with 26. He has also chipped in one goal and two assists in four games.

Merrill will play in his seventh straight MLL All-Star Game. The five-time MLL Defensive Player of the Year leads Hamilton with 35 ground balls and is second all-time in MLL history with 482. Merrill leads all defenseman with seven points (2+1+4). The former third-overall pick, has won three MLL championships and earned the 2005 MLL Rookie of the Year.

Walters will play in his fourth All-Star Game. He was named to his first MLL All-Star Game in 2008 and 2009, and played in the 2006 event with Team USA. The five-year pro is fourth in the MLL with 23 points (9+1+13) after a monster 15-point weekend. On Saturday, he set the team's single-game assist record (six) and tied the point record (eight). On Friday, he became the team's all-time point leader. Walters has two MLL titles: 2008 with Rochester and 2009 with Toronto.

On Friday night, the Nationals will host the Long Island Lizards at Ron Joyce Stadium. The 7:00 p.m. contest, on Canada Day, will be broadcast live on ESPN3.com.
