May 5, 2009 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2) News Release
ROCHESTER, MI--- The Komets jumped on the Lumberjacks first in Game Three, scoring 5:29 into the opening period when forward Justin Hodgman notched in his sixth goal of the playoffs. Hodgman received a pass from line mate Sean O'Connor, who was battling one-on-one with a Muskegon defender before he passed the puck through the crease. Hodgman then buried it stick-side on Muskegon goaltender Kevin Armstrong.
The scoring continued midway through the second when Fort Wayne's Konstantin Shafranov scored his first goal of the playoffs after being parked on the right side of the net during the Komets power play. Muskegon got on the board at the 15:48 mark of the second stanza after Lumberjacks right wing Luke Stauffacher knocked in a rebound from behind the goal that bounced off of Boucher and in the net.
Early in the third, the âJacks evened the score when Staffacher netted his second of night at 2:14. However, just 46 seconds later, Mathieu Curadeau scored for the Komets, putting them ahead 3-2. Curadeau also scored an empty-netter at 19:38 after the Lumberjacks pulled Armstrong for the extra attacker. Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn wrapped up the scoring for the Komets, scoring with 10.6 seconds left in the game.
The Komets skated away with a 5-2 victory over the Lumberjacks. Komet goaltender Nick Boucher earned his seventh win of the playoffs, making a total of 26 saves.
Both teams remain in Muskegon for Game Four Wednesday with the Komets having a 3-0 series lead over Muskegon.
