WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Former Wildcats forward Dan Sexton helped the United States claim a bronze medal on Sunday as the USA blanked the Czech Republic, 3-0, to conclude the 2015 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championships in Prague.

The bronze marks the second medal for the United States at the IIHF Men's World Championships, joining a bronze medal in the 2013 edition of the tournament. Sexton is the first Wildcats alumnus to earn a medal with Team USA at the IIHF Men's World Championships.

In Sunday's bronze medal game against the Czechs, Sexton saw more than seven minutes of ice time and finished the game with an even rating. The Minnesota-born forward appeared in seven games at the World Championships, posting two points on a goal and an assist and 10 shots on goal while playing primarily on the wing.

Sexton has spent the better part of the last two seasons with Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk of the KHL. In 49 games for the Russian side this season, he recorded 19 goals and 28 points for 47 points to lead his team in goals, assists and points.

Prior to his time in the KHL, Sexton spent two seasons at Bowling Green State University before signing a professional contract with the Anaheim Ducks in 2009. He became the first former Wildcat to play in the National Hockey League when he made his debut for the Ducks on Dec. 4, 2009 against the Minnesota Wild.

Sexton was a key contributor for the Wildcats in his one season in Wichita Falls, recording 59 points on 22 goals and 37 assists during the 2005-06 campaign to help the 'Cats reach the postseason for a second-consecutive season.
