
Former Waterloo Buck Cody Sedlock Debuts with the Orioles

Rochester, Minn. - Former Waterloo Buck Cody Sedlock made his Major League debut for the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday, May 29, 2022. Sedlock is the 290th former Northwoods League player to reach the Major League level.
Sedlock, who played collegiately at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, played for the Waterloo Bucks in 2014. He was drafted in the 1st round, 27th overall, of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Orioles.
In 2014 with the Bucks, Sedlock appeared in 13 games and was 5-3 with a 3.27 ERA. He struck out 53 batters in 63.1 innings and walked 29.
Sedlock began his professional career in 2016 with the Aberdeen IronBirds of the Short-Season A New York-Penn League. In nine games he was 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA. He struck out 25 batters in 27.0 innings.
In 2017 Sedlock moved up to the Frederick Keys of the Hi-A Carolina League. He appeared in 20 games and was 4-5 with a 5.90 ERA. He pitched in 90.0 innings and walked 36 while striking out 69.
Sedlock started the 2018 season with the Orioles Rookie level team in the Gulf Coast League. After five game he went back to Aberdeen. He would pitch in two games in Aberdeen before ending the season with Frederick. Over a combined 13 appearances he was 0-3 with a 5.11 ERA. He struck out 28 batters in 37.0 innings.
In 2019, Sedlock started the season in Frederick and then was promoted, after 13 games to the Bowie Baysox of the AA Eastern League. Between the two clubs he was a combined 5-3 with a 2.84 ERA. He struck out a career-high 100 batters in 95.0 innings and saved one game.
Sedlock started the 2021 season in Bowie and then moved up to the Norfolk Tides of the AAA East League. For the season he appeared in 24 games and was 6-6 with a 4.55 ERA. He once again struck out 100 batters and had two saves in 93.0 innings.
Prior to his call-up to the Orioles, Sedlock was in Norfolk where he had appeared in eight games. He was 2-1 with a 5.83 ERA and had 35 strikeouts in 29.1 innings. In his Major League debut against the Red Sox, he entered the game in relief in the 5th inning and pitched three innings allowing one run on five hits while striking out three.
