Minnesota Thunder News Release
ST. PAUL, Minn. (Friday, February 17, 2006) - The Minnesota Thunder announced today that its 2004 Most Valuable Player, goalkeeper Joe Warren, and its 2005 Most Valuable Player, midfielder Godfrey Tenoff, have agreed to terms with the team through 2007.
Tenoff, from Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, stepped up in his second year with the Thunder last season and was the only Thunder player to play in all 28 regular season matches where he logged over 2,000 minutes. He also played in all five U.S. Open Cup games.
Tenoff was a solid force in the midfield and notched three goals and two assists in the regular season. His leadership both on and off the field have been valuable to the team and to the organization. Prior to coming to the Thunder, Tenoff spent three seasons with the A-League Indiana Blast where he was named that team's MVP in 2003.
"Godfrey is a player that is just hitting his prime," said Thunder head coach Amos Magee. "He's extremely versatile and effective on the field and gives us great leadership both on and off the field. We're excited to have him back."
Warren, a Minneapolis native, will return to the Thunder for his seventh season with the team. Warren has been one of the top keepers in the league over the past three years. In Warren's Thunder MVP season in 2004 he finished second in the league with a goals against average of .686 and chalked up 15 shutouts in over 2,600 minutes of play. Only 20 goals were scored on him all season. He was also named to the All-League Second team that same season.
In 2005, Warren helped the Thunder make it all the way to the U.S. Open Cup semi-finals and started 26 regular season games.
"Minnesota has been blessed with good goalkeepers," said Magee. "Joe was, in my opinion, the best keeper in the league two years ago. His size and athleticism are unmatched in our league and he is becoming a smarter keeper each season."
