Former Slam, WWU Star Duty Signs with Spanish Club

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Former Bellingham Slam and Western Washington University forward Michael Duty has crossed the globe for his latest opportunity to play professional basketball, signing with a team in Spain recently.
The 6-foot-6 Seattle native and former O'Dea High School standout has signed with the Obila Basketball Club located in the city of Avila in central Spain.
The team participates as a member of the Spanish Basketball League's Silver division.
Duty heads to Spain after recently completing his first professional season overseas in Australia, where he suited up for the Mackay Meteors of the Queensland Basketball League. In 13 games this year with the Meteors, Duty averaged 13.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, and scored at least 20 points three times.
Prior to competing in Australia, Duty played two seasons for the Slam. In 2012, he averaged 13.6 points per game and had enjoyed several big performances before he was sidelined by injury and missed the second half of the team's championship season.
Duty joined the Slam after starring at Western Washington for three seasons, where he led the Vikings in scoring as a senior with 16.4 points per game and was named a Great Northwest Athletic Conference first-team all-star.
Duty's season in the Spanish Basketball League with Oblia begins in October and wraps up next spring.
