Mahoning Valley Phantoms News Release

BOARDMAN, Ohio - Former Mahoning Valley Phantoms and current Bentley Falcons Anthony Canzoneri, Marc Menzione, Casey Russell and Mark Zarbo were all named to the 2006-2007 Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team.

To qualify for the All-Academic team, players must earn a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher in each of the two academic periods while competing.

Canzoneri, a sophomore center/right wing last season, is a two-time recipient of the honor. Last season, he led the Falcons with 17 assists and finished third in scoring with 26 points.

He was twice named to the Atlantic Hockey honor roll and was once named the Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week. Canzoneri played for the Phantoms from 2003-2005.

Menzione, a right wing, finished his freshman season at Bentley. He was fourth on the team and tied for tenth among Atlantic Hockey rookies with 20 points. Menzione led Bentley with four power play goals.

After two seasons with the Phantoms from 2004-2006, Menzione was named to the Atlantic Hockey honor roll five times last season. He is studying corporate finance.

Zarbo, a defenseman, is a 2004 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School. His seven points in 34 games tied him for ninth among rookie defensemen scoring in the conference this past season. Like Canzoneri, Zarbo played in Boardman from 2003-2005.

Russell, also a defenseman, completed his sophomore season with 11 points on four goals and seven assists in 35 games. He played on the blue line for the Phantoms during their inaugural 2003-2004 campaign.

Bentley landed 17 players on the All-Academic team, most of anyone in Atlantic Hockey. Dustin Cloutier, the Phantoms leading scorer last season, will play for the Falcons this fall.

The Mahoning Valley Phantoms are owned by the B.J. Alan Company- Phantom Fireworks, which is headquartered in Youngstown, Ohio.
