Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (April 5, 2015) - The Chicago White Sox announced their Opening Day roster for the 2015 season earlier today, and former Kannapolis Intimidators second baseman Micah Johnson earned a spot on the squad, making him the 82nd player to go from Kannapolis to the Major Leagues. Johnson, a South Atlantic League Annual All-Star in 2013, led all of Minor League Baseball with 84 stolen bases during his standout season with the Intimidators, Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, including 61 swiped bags in 77 games with Kannapolis before receiving a mid-season promotion to Class A-Advanced Winston-Salem.
Johnson, 24, hit a blistering .342 (104-304) with 17 doubles, 11 triples, six home runs, and 42 RBI with Kannapolis. He would have finished second in the South Atlantic League in batting average that season by .001, however the former Indiana Hoosier was 21 plate appearances shy of qualifying. Johnson, the White Sox ninth round pick in the June 2012 First-Year Player Draft, is one of three former Intimidators to make the White Sox Opening Day roster, joining fellow infielders Carlos Sanchez (2011) and Gordon Beckham (2008).
