Former Broncos Pitcher/Coach Mickey Callaway Accepts Job As Cleveland Indians Pitching Coach At Sing

Laredo, Texas- The Laredo Broncos of the United League are pleased to announce that former Broncos player and coach Mickey Callaway has accepted a position with the Cleveland Indians as pitching coach of Lake County, Single A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. The former Major Leaguer played with the Laredo Broncos in 2008 and had a record of 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA. He also served as pitching coach of the Laredo Broncos while he was rehabbing from Tommy John Surgery.

General Manager Jose Melendez praised Callaway during his stay with the Broncos, "This is great news for Mickey. I really enjoyed his professionalism while he was here and I knew one day he will get an opportunity as a coach with an MLB organization. He was very good to our players and also a great teammate. I wish him the best and hopefully we hear a lot about him in the coming years."

Callaway, 34, also pitched in Korea and Taiwan during his playing days as well as head coached one year at TAMIU in 2009.. Originally a seventh round selection by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the 1996 June Draft, he made his Major League Debut in 1999 and spent parts of five seasons in the Majors with the Devil Rays, Texas Rangers and Anaheim Angels compiling a 4-11 record with a 6.27 ERA in 40 games/20 starts at the Major League level. He was named the Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2001 for Tampa Bay and in 2002 for Anaheim.
