Philadelphia Force News Release
The Series
The Philadelphia Force (10-10) look to keep the momentum they gained this past series after taking three of the four games against New England (13-11). This week, the Force play the Stratford Brakettes, the premiere Amateur Softball Association (ASA) franchise. They play four games against the Brakettes from Tuesday July 10 through Friday July 13 with all games starting at 7:05 p.m. at ECTB Stadium. Game recaps will be available after each game at www.philadelphiaforce.com.
There were many highlights during the past series with the New England Riptide. Leading off, Chelsea Spencer still leads the league in batting average with .431, accumulating 10 walks and nine RBI's over the season. The first game of the series that was suspended because of rain on Independence Day, the Force won 7-1, with Jenna Hall delivering a two-run single up the middle for the go-ahead runs. During Saturday's game, the Force were down early but with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth inning, Trena Peel hit a moon-shot grand slam over the center field fence. Peel now leads the team in home runs with four and 11 RBI's, another team high.
In Force pitching, Kristina Thorson (5-2) earned two wins during the past series, including an almost no-hitter during the continued suspended game from July 4. Margo Pruis (3-1) pitched a complete game shutout during Thursday's night game with a tight 1-0 victory. In the loss this weekend, Pruis was still strong in the circle, allowing only six hits and three strikeouts.
The Opponents
The Brakettes are winners of 27 National Championships and four in the last five years. Currently they hold a 31-0 record against fellow ASA teams. Former Philadelphia Force pitcher Candice Freel returns to Allentown with the Brakettes. Through July 1, Freel has posted a 15-0 record with 0.53 ERA. Stratford's other pitcher Brandice Balschmiter has a 16-0 record and a 0.44 ERA.
The Brakettes also have power hitting working for them too. Team home run leaders include shortstop Courtney Bures and catcher Killian Roessner hitting a grand slam this past weekend against the Maurer and Scott Blasters of Allentown, PA.
