Force to take on Pride in final away series

July 20, 2009 - National Pro Fastpitch (NPF)
Philadelphia Force News Release

The Series Looking to this week's series with the Pride, the Force know that their postseason dreams are on the line in Florida. Sitting two games behind the Pride, Philadelphia will look to pick up key victories to sneak into fourth place in the NPF standings. The Pride have been barely holding onto fourth place this season, and won only one game last week in their five game set with the first place Bandits.

What Just Happened The Force played extremely well last week in Illinois taking two of the five games from the host Thunder. After back-to-back extra inning losses, the Force regrouped and dominated Rockford in game three and four setting up a huge game five. Unfortunately, Rockford snuck by the Force in the series finale.

Team Leaders Throughout last week's series, the Force saw amazing offensive production from a variety of players. DeDe Justice nearly brought the Force back in game five of the series on a two run homer in the top of the seventh to make it 4-2. Justice's home run in that game was her fifth of the season, and her .304 average ranks her second on the team. Megan Gibson is also hitting over .300 this season.

With a .310 average going into Florida, Gibson has been on-fire at the plate improving her season totals to 13 hits, seven runs, two doubles, one triple, five home runs, 11 RBI's and seven runs scored in 42 at-bats. She also leads the team with a .762 slugging percentage which is amongst the best in the league.

Sitting in the circle, Kristin Erb put together one her most dominant performances in the 6-1 victory over the Thunder last week. The Lock Haven ace sits second on the team with 22 strikeouts and innings pitched with 43 1/3. Jessica Sallinger continues to produce for the Force as well this season. In 48 2/3 innings, Sallinger has fanned a team best 31 batters and has thrown two complete games.

A Look Ahead This week's trip to Florida will be the last for the Force, as they will close out the 2009 regular season in Allentown. Starting on July 28th the Force will host the Thunder in a five game series at ECTB Stadium.
